A steel frame barn and its contents in the 3000 block of Green Valley Road were deemed a total loss as a result of a Sunday morning fire, a battalion chief for the Springfield Fire Department said.

The barn was used to store farm equipment and lawn mowing equipment, SFD battalion chief Mike Bartletti.

A search of property records showed the home and barn belong to Peter Sheehan, who owns JP's Lawn Care.

Sheehan didn't immediately respond to messages left by The State Journal-Register.

A tenant lives in a house on the property.

Bartletti said the call came into the fire department from a neighbor around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

When SFD crews responded to the scene, one half of the structure was already on the ground while the other half was involved in fire, Bartletti said.

Pleasant Plains, Sherman and New Berlin fire departments also responded with water tankers. Sangamon County sheriff's deputies were also on the scene.

Bartletti said there was no indication the fire was suspicious. Two inspectors from SFD responded to the scene, Bartletti said.
